Understanding another language is one thing. Understanding its wider cultural issues is something else. As a GCHQ Language and Cultural Specialist, you’ll dig deep into both and use your skills to help make Britain a better place for everyone.
We’re looking for people who are fluent in one of the following languages:
• Chinese (Mandarin)
• Arabic (additional dialect useful)
• Persian
But it’s not just about speaking the language. Your role will be to assess pieces of information and to distinguish the nuggets of intelligence that have real value. So you’ll need to become expert in relevant social and cultural issues as well.
It makes for an intellectually challenging role – and an always interesting career.
To join us, you must be a British citizen and fluent in English as well as your other language. You may have developed your language skills through university or in the military. Alternatively, you may be a natural speaker with no formal language qualifications.
When you join us, you may be deployed into your specific language area or you could be retrained into another language or dialect.
