GCHQ – Government Communications Headquarters – is a key part of the UK’s intelligence and security service. Along with MI5 and MI6, we work to counter threats to British people and interests.

We do this by using sophisticated technology to gather electronic and digital signals, and by protecting the Government’s communication and information systems from hackers, interference and disruption.

The work of our language and culture specialists is a vital component of GCHQ's intelligence effort. They play a key role in translating and analysing a large and diverse amount of foreign language material, often using your specialist knowledge and expertise to judge which pieces of information are of intelligence value.

Due to the nature of the work you will be involved with, you must be a British citizen, and fluent in English as well as your other language. Full training is available, and there is an interesting and diverse career path for you to follow.
