Biomass Project Engineer

Our client is one of the worlds leading independent wind farm developers employing over 1000 people worldwide. They have played a key role in the development of the wind energy market in the UK and have achieved significant recent success in international markets.
With this excellent track record within the renewable sector they are expanding activities to non-wind renewable power generation.
They have an expanding portfolio of projects in the development of grid connected biomass power and CHP
As a result we are seeking to recruit a Biomass Project Engineer to support the development of such projects in the UK and various other locations
In this role you will be responsible for delivery of all the engineering input to the biomass projects, this will include:-
* To provide initial engineering concept designs for the feasibility stage of biomass projects.
* Production of engineering drawings required for the development and consenting process using the CAD resource
* Working closely with and support project Development Managers in the pre and post-planning detailed engineering for biomass projects, including phases such as planning, procurement, financing, due diligence and environmental permitting.
* Co-ordinating the input of specialists from within the Group Engineering resource (eg grid connection, electrical & SCADA engineering, civil and structural engineering and health & safety including working with the CDM co-ordinator).
* Working closely with project Development Managers to ensure consistency exists between the technical design and fuel specifications.
* Conduct critical reviews of technical documentation
* Specify, engage and manage specialist external consultant/contractor input on a range of engineering aspects such as technology and equipment selection, project optimisation including CHP feasibility, site investigations, detailed process engineering, materials handling, construction and build ability, BAT assessment, environmental permitting and other permits required to operate the plant.
* Develop and support the ongoing improvement of engineering procedures for biomass power stations
* Maintain a regular understanding of relevant legislative changes
Essential Criteria:-
* Educated to degree level in mechanical, chemical or process engineering.
* Relevant industrial experience, preferably in the field of bioenergy, electricity generation (thermal plant), or other thermal process industry.
* Chartered or working towards chartered status with a strong appreciation of project management.
* Strong contract and project management skills
* Excellent team-working and strong communication and IT skills.
* Flexibility.
* An ability to manage work to tight deadlines, often with competing demands including management of staff and task delegation.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.
Desirable Criteria:-
* Experience of working in a project team on the design and procurement of large thermal plant under EPC and/or EPCM contracts
* Good knowledge of thermal conversion technologies for biomass, particularly combustion and steam cycle systems.
