The role: Employment Counsel, APAC
As Corporate Counsel at Google, you work on the most exciting legal issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative and proactive legal guidance. You're part of a whip-smart group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases you take on challenge you to think big and differently. You are collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with Googlers from all over the company. As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.
You will have the opportunity to work independently but collaboratively within a fun, fast-paced legal team. You will report to the Senior Employment Counsel, APAC, based in Sydney. You will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to HR Business Partners, Compensation, Benefits and Staffing teams based in the region and globally in relation to a broad range of employee-related issues. You can work independently but simultaneously be team focussed, keeping the practice group updated on new issues and high risk situations. You are able to prioritise the demands of multiple internal clients, both regionally and globally, and flexible in adapting to their needs. Focussed, thorough and proactive, you are also a strategic thinker who balances practical advice with legal risks. This position is based in Sydney, but the successful candidate could potentially also be based in Singapore.
Responsibilities:
* Advise all levels of management and HR teams on employment-related legal issues, including hiring, disciplinary actions, reorganisations, terminations & litigation.
* Draft employment guidelines, contracts and policies, create procedures and process efficiencies.
* Manage legal compliance projects within HR, identifying risks and driving projects to completion.
* Advise on compensation programs, employee benefits, diversity programs, HR-related M&A.
* Conduct manager and human resources training.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Law degree
* 2 years post qualification experience working primarily as an employment lawyer (ideally in-house but law firm also considered)
* Thorough knowledge of relevant employment laws in at least one APAC country
* Experience in working on HR issues/projects across multiple countries, preferably in APAC
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience working in a regional legal role.
* Experience in managing legal compliance projects.
* Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
