Job Description
Second Life – Where Worlds are Born.
Second Life is a 3D virtual world entirely created by its Residents (people like you) that's bursting with entertainment, experiences, and opportunity. The company behind it, Linden Lab, was founded in 1999 to create a revolutionary new form of shared experience. The Second Life Grid provides the platform where Second Life resides and offers the tools for business, educators, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs to develop a virtual presence. Headquartered in San Francisco, Linden Lab has over 200 employees spread across the globe and are now growing the European Studio based in Brighton, UK.
Overview:
Linden Lab seeks a detail and results-oriented Localization Manager to manage all phases of product localization including project definition, design execution, solutions development & tools release, and translation processes.
The position will be responsible for release into international markets of many Second Life products including the released Second Life Viewer, the Second Life website(s) and language-specific sites or showcases, the Customer Support portal and outbound support communication tools.
The position will oversee product delivery throughout the localization process, work with internal development team(s), QA, and international marketing as well as translation partners in order to deliver the appropriate international experience to customers. This includes coordinating and overseeing the development and quality of the work delivered by the team.
Initial localization efforts will be focused on German, Japanese and Korean - so any skills in those languages would be welcome - but other European languages such as French, Spanish and Italian are also of interest.
Responsibilities:
Strong project management skills.
Thorough technical insight, understanding of standard software development methods as well as quality control processes.
Experience with business processes.
Experience managing external partner relationships.
Experience with software localization methods.
Technical insight and perhaps a background within MySQL or similar database oriented programming languages.
Good communication and documented people management skills.
Good cross-functional collaboration and negotiation skills.
Relevant Education:
Preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
Fluent in both written and spoken English; fluency in another language is an advantage.
