Job Description
BBC Persian is part of BBC World Service which broadcasts in 33 languages and attracts 183 million people from around the world each week. It's an exciting time for us at BBC Persian. Later this year, as part of a multimedia offer, the service will launch Persian TV. The channel will be broadcast in the Farsi language and will complement the BBC's existing Persian radio and online offer. BBC Persian TV will available for eight hours a day via free to air satellite. The television channel will draw upon the BBC’s un-matched newsgathering resources and will also show current affairs programmes, alongside quality BBC factual, cultural and educational documentaries.
We're looking for a talented Farsi speaking Publicist to help raise our profile among key audiences on a 12 month contract. You’ll provide strategic and operational PR support to promote the BBC Persian (TV, radio and online), by generating programme, news and presenter publicity opportunities across key markets. This role will also manage interview opportunities for key BBC Persian spokespeople. You’ll also focus on online communications, posting clips on third-party websites, placing stories and interviews with online media and engaging with influential bloggers and social networking websites. You’ll work closely with the BBC Persian senior management, presenters, news teams and programme producers to maximise programme, news and presenter publicity opportunities for the BBC Persian. You’ll also be required to respond rapidly to press inquiries both in the UK and abroad.
You'll have excellent Farsi language skills (both spoken and written) with strong Publicist/press office experience at a senior level. It's essential that you're able to build and manage effective relationships quickly with a wide variety of people. You'll have experience of press material writing and editing as well as experience of managing media interviews, press conferences and events. Experience of devising and implementing online and digital communications plans is essential, as is knowledge of BBC World Service and the ability to relate to a multi-cultural workforce.
Applications to be received by 1 September.
At the BBC we respect each other and celebrate our diversity so that everyone gives their best. The BBC positively encourages applications from all parts of the community and is committed to promoting equality of opportunity.
