About us

Applied Language Solutions started in October 2003 with Gavin Wheeldon, that's him on the left of the screen, working from a home office doing every thing - sales, programming, project management, general administration, you name it he did it. Gavin realised he couldn't do everything himself so, in February 2004 Paul Wheeldon, Gavin's brother joined the company as Operations Director and pushed through obtaining ISO9001, DIN and Investors in People accreditations which moved the company to a new level.

Applied Language opened it's first office in sunny Huddersfield. This was soon filled with talented and enthusiastic staff who really wanted to help people, but the parking was terrible and things were getting a little crowded so, in April 2005 Applied Language moved to much swankier offices just outside Huddersfield. But we filled that one as well. So in March 2006 we all moved again to our new offices in Armitage Bridge.

From here the team swelled and grew shoots in Bulgaria where the project management and IT departments are based and a sales team in California to enable us to help the people of the USA with their translations.

A huge part of the company's success is down to the 6,000 plus highly qualified translators we have based around the world. To help the translators we launched, in February 2006, Talkbase.net. This dedicated web portal allows them a secure way to keep track of the projects they are working on and most importantly ensure they are paid on time.

The hard work pays off

All the hard work the whole team in all of our office is beginning to pay off not only in the growth and profitability we're now seeing. But, in recognition from various awards committees.

Now with over 40 staff and five offices we're consistently supplying accurate translations for letters, brochures, websites, contracts and technical journals into over 140 languages.

But the work doesn't stop there. We recently opened our first office in Guatemala to support the US operations. We're opening offices in China, Australia and the East Coast of America in the next year.

We won the HSBC Start-up Star Award

Gavin Wheeldon, the founder and Managing Director of Applied Language Solutions, has been awarded this year's annual HSBC Start-Up Star Award 2006 in recognition of his inspirational business success.

The annual HSBC Start-Up Stars Awards, presented in association with the Daily Express and Sky News, are a nationwide search for Britain's brightest new businesses and the inspirational entrepreneurs behind them.
